Media chit-chat

A (hopefully) quick entry for discussing some media I've been enjoying lately!

Music

Last month, one of my favorite youtubers, Hazel, released an EP. I love love love her crunchy style. Absolutely every song she puts out scratches an itch deep in my brain that I didn't even know was there. I also really recommend Connections and Feelings. It's a heaping pile of b-sides and demos with lovely commentary from Hazel herself (I seriously can't get enough of her voice lol it's very soothing).

My favorite track on Smiling Broadly is probably Impish thing. The little chiptune bleeps and bloops are everything to me.

As for Connections and Feelings, it's her cover of The Brave Little Abacus' Don't Come Around Here No More (Please). The original is really good, but I love the noise and particular emotion Hazel puts into her cover. It almost perfectly mirrored the emotions I was feeling and going through earlier that year.

Speaking of noise, I've also been listening to My Dead Girlfriend, a Japanese noise pop band. I saw one of my instagram mutuals talking about it and decided to check them out. I'm glad I did, it's been very relaxing to listen to on the way to and from work. I really like Hades in the Dead of Winter

A friend recommended me an album based on how much I loved and talked about Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. He thought it would fit perfectly in the OST and I have to agree! It's Punk Tactics by Joey Valence & Brae. (Here's their youtube as well! They have quite a few music videos on there lol).

I've actually modded DROP!!, PUNK TACTICS, HOOLIGAN and STARTAFIGHT into BRC. As you might be able to guess, these are my favorite tracks in the album.

They're actually going on an album tour early next year and one of the shows is pretty close to me. I'm tempted to go, but honestly that depends on if I have company. I'm not big on things involving crowds if I don't have someone I trust with me.

I discovered MIMIDEATH via spotify shuffle shortly after my first listen through of PUNK TACTICS. I've also added a few of their songs to BRC.

I'm glad I've been experiencing different genres and bands lately. I'm the type of person who'll listen to the same song on repeat and more-or-less stick to what music I know I'll like. But it's good to step out of your comfort zone! Because you'll absolutely find some gems!

Movies

I've been sloooowly rewatching a few of the early 2000s CGI Barbie movies. So far I've got:

I really enjoyed these movies as a kid but it has been quite some time since I've last seen them! I've forgotten a lot despite having seen Swan Lake who knows how many times. The musical barbie movies are the best. The songs are solid and the vocals are always really good. Once I finish watching Diamond Castle I'll have to figure out what to watch next!

Shows

Not much to say here! I've been keeping up with My Adventures with Superman. It's a super cute show and so far has my favorite depiction of Clark Kent/Superman (as well as Lois and Jimmy!). It's also really nice to see DC shows like this: it's got an equal amount of interpersonal drama and typical superhero show plot to it. I guess Warner Bros finally figured out this type of stuff is popular (I'm still bitter that Teen Titans and Young Justice were cancelled because they were too popular with young girls >:/)

Eventually I'll get around to watching Fiona and Cake...but I also feel obligated to catch myself up on Adventure Time so I have a bit more context...and that's holding me back because there is so much to watch. I'll have to look into an episode guide, I suppose. Find something that'll take me through the plot easily and quickly.

Videos

Ok! Finally, here's a little list of recent videos I like!

And that's about it!

That's a pretty decent summary of what I've been enjoying recently! If you happen to check out anything I've brought up here, particularly the music, I hope you enjoy it!

Until next time! Byeeee!
