oops + media chit chat

Once again, long time no talk!

I feel bad not having updated this or my site, but I've once again been busy and inspiration hasn't really struck, so I didn't want to force it! But I did want to come back and talk about a few things I've been enjoying :^)

Games

I've been playing some Coral Island. As a big fan of Stardew Valley, this game has been super fun to get into. It's perfect too because I've been getting this itch to play Stardew, but no drive because I've played it so much already that it's gotten a bit dull. Even with mods. So this strikes a perfect balance of having that farm sim gameplay but being unique enough that I'm not getting burnt out.

Honestly, so far I've been enjoying it a lot more than Stardew simply because of a sheer amount of characters/townsfolk and dateable characters that are also very diverse. I do hope more everyday dialogue is added though.

I'm always playing Splatoon 3 (it's one of my favorite gaming IPs) but I thought I'd give it a special mention because lately I've been having Thoughts about it. I still love Splatoon with all my heart, but it's been pretty hard to enjoy splatfests in this game.

On paper, tricolor battles are really, really cool. And in the moment, I do really enjoy them. But there are some balancing issues in splatfests overall that make it a bit hard to enjoy them in the long run. Splatfests have always had balance issues, but it seems particularly worse now. Like this past Splatfest for instance! I really thought Frye's team (team fistbump) had it in the bag since they not only won the sneak peak, but also halftime! ...but no, Shiver's team ended up winning...again. All because they had the least amount of mirror matches. That seriously sucked. I wasn't even on Frye's team this splatfest and I was holding my head in my hands in frustration.

I really hope they fix these issues. Otherwise I might just skip out on splatfests.

Shows

Ok. So. I finished watching Fionna and Cake ages ago. But it was really good! A lot of love went into it and I really recommend giving it a go if you liked Adventure Time.

I loved seeing all the different universes. The vampire and Lich universes freaked me out in an existential kinda way. Even though this alternate timeline/reality stuff has been done to death by Marvel and DC and you'd think I'd be sick of it, Fionna and Cake was cool with it. I really enjoyed it!

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off was a big anticipated show for me. I love the comic and the movie, so I was super excited to see what Takes Off was going to bring to the table.

At first, I wasn't really into it. I wasn't sure where it was going. But by the 5th episode, I was super into it. Something clicked and I was having a super fun time. I'm glad I stuck with it.

There were a bunch of fun callbacks to the comic and movie but absolutely held up on it's own storywise. I was also pleasantly surprised by the voice acting, which was phenomenal. I was skeptical because actor =/= voice actor, but huge kudos to the voice director and actors because they blew my socks off. Particularly Ellen Wong (Knives), Mae Whitman (Roxie) and Mark Webber (Stephen). Their performances were my favorites.

The animation and music was amazing too. Even if you're not into Scott Pilgrim, I seriously recommend watching just for the fight scenes and music. It's top notch. But that's to be expected from Science SARU. And Anamanaguchi returned for the music! Woo!!!!

Videos

I really enjoyed this video about the development of Ocarina of Time. I swear I could watch videos like this for hours and never not be amazed.

Here's a cool analysis of Bloodborne. My knowledge of this game is pretty limited, but this was a neat watch nonetheless. I love feminine horror.

Y'know. I never really knew the true extent of gimmick blogs on tumblr. But this video clued me in

Here's a video about an interesting video game I hadn't heard of before called Hotel Dusk. The rotoscope animations are so TASTY.

Lastly, here's an interesting video on the ethics of piracy when it comes to Vocaloid. I have my own thoughts when it comes to this and this video really fleshed out some of them and made me think about others! I absolutely recommend it for any vocal synth fan!

Aaaaand that's about all I have time for today!

Here's hoping the next blog entry won't be too far in the future! Because I do really like writing here! I love having this time to think and reflect and talk about things. Even if it's only to myself!
